Studies show that tech jobs attract drastically fewer numbers of women than men, and that girls, while interested in science and technology in the elementary grades, seem to tune out as they reach adolescence.  The school system as a whole fails to channel females talents in that direction.

Mission

FemTechies USA envisions a diverse networking organization that mentors, teaches, and promotes female, technical talents throughout their entire careers, from high school through retirement. We believe in the extraordinary—a unified sisterhood of technical beginners and experts, from students to retirees. We are redefining recruitment, revising standards for training, and restructuring networks for the creation of a technical organization that includes expertise in computers, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and high-energy physics.

History

FemTechies USA began in June 2000 as a seedling that sprouted from its founder’s intuitive observations. She thought, "How will young women become technical managers? How will female small business owners find great talent? How will the college student make contacts in high growth, technology firms? How will female executives acquire the Internet savvy they need to be marketable?" Although it is still very young, the organization is already grabbing the attention of prospective members, including high school seniors, college students, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and retirees.
